Three-time Vuelta a España champion Primoz Roglic won stage eight, reducing the gap to overall leader Ben O'Connor by nearly a minute.
Saturday's stage ended with a category three climb, where Roglic went head-to-head with Spain's Enric Mas. The 34-year-old Slovenian surged ahead in the final 200 meters to secure his second stage win of the race.
O'Connor struggled on the steep climb and finished 17th, with his lead over Roglic now reduced to 3 minutes 49 seconds.
Roglic, who attacked three times on the challenging climb to Cazorla, said, 'It was tough and hot, but I had the strength to push through and win.'
