Red Bull’s Max Verstappen claimed his sixth victory of the Formula 1 season after withstanding pressure from Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz in the closing stages of the Canadian Grand Prix.
Verstappen won from the pole at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve to extend the world championship lead to 46 points over Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez.
Later Verstappen noted that he trailed Charles Leclerc by 46 points following the third race of the season.
Verstappen, who was driving in his 150th Grand Prix, has now grabbed six of nine races this season.
Winning the title Max shared that “It was really exciting at the end. I was giving it everything I had and, of course, Carlos was doing the same.”
