Rafael Nadal suffered unexpected elimination from the Paris Masters.

The second-seeded, Rafael Nadal has suffered unexpected elimination from the Paris Masters after a second-round loss to American Thomas Paul.

Tommy Paul came from behind to knock out Nadal of the Paris Masters by 3-6 7-6(4) 1-6 and sealed his spot in the third round of the tournament. 

With the impressive victory, Paul became the first player to beat Nadal before the quarterfinals in Bercy.

Nadal's loss also means he cannot regain the world No. 1 ranking. 

Before the Paris Masters, Carlos Alcaraz, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casper Ruud, Daniil Medvedev, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic had already qualified for the eight-man tournament in Turin from Nov. 13-20.
