Tour de France champion Tadej Pogacar revealed that his decision to withdraw from Paris 2024 was influenced by the Slovenian Olympic Committee not selecting his girlfriend, Urska Zigart.
Tour de France champion Tadej Pogacar withdrew from the Paris 2024 Games due to "extreme fatigue," according to the Slovenian Olympic Committee.
Speaking before a criterium race in the Netherlands, Pogacar mentioned that his girlfriend Urska Zigart’s omission from the team influenced his decision.
"It’s not the main reason, but it didn’t help. She deserves her spot as a double national champion in road race and time trial," Pogacar said.
Instead, Slovenia selected Urska Pintar and Eugenia Bujak for the women's road race. Zigart, who finished significantly ahead of Pintar in the national championships, is noted for being the only Slovenian woman cyclist to achieve a top 10 finish in week-long World Tour races.
