Tadej Pogacar secured a remarkable Tour de France-Giro d'Italia double by winning the stage 21 time trial in Nice.
Tadej Pogacar of UAE Team Emirates capped off the Tour de France with his sixth stage victory, becoming the first cyclist since Marco Pantani in 1998 to win both the Tour de France and Giro d'Italia in the same year.
This year's Tour finale, held outside Paris for the first time since 1903 due to the upcoming Olympics, saw 25-year-old Pogacar dominate in the yellow jersey.
He finished the stage 63 seconds ahead of Jonas Vingegaard, securing his place in cycling history.
Tadej Pogacar secured his third Tour de France title, finishing six minutes and 17 seconds ahead of Jonas Vingegaard of Visma–Lease a Bike. "I cannot describe how happy I am," said Pogacar. "After two hard years in the Tour de France, this year everything went to perfection."
Remco Evenepoel of Soudal–Quick-Step, a Tour debutant, finished third overall, nine minutes and 18 seconds behind Pogacar.
The 2024 Tour will also be remembered for Mark Cavendish's record-breaking 35th stage victory in Saint Vulbas during the opening week. After completing the final stage, the legendary British sprinter hinted that this year's Tour might be his last race.
