Peres Jepchirchir Sets New Women's Only World Record at 2024 London Marathon.

Peres Jepchirchir, the Olympic champion, claimed a resounding victory in the London Marathon, setting a new women's only world record with a remarkable time of two hours, 16 minutes, and 16 seconds.

Tigst Assefa and Megertu Alemu, both from Ethiopia, along with Kenya's Joyciline Jepkosgei, joined Peres Jepchirchir in surpassing the previous women's only world record of 2:17:01 set by Mary Keitany in 2017 during the London Marathon.

In the men's race, Kenya's Alexander Mutiso Munyao secured victory in 2:04:01, holding off the legendary Kenenisa Bekele.

British runners Emile Cairess and Mahamed Mahamed finished third and fourth, with Cairess clocking 2:06:46, making him the second-fastest British man ever in the marathon distance and the first Brit to podium since Sir Mo Farah in 2018.

Both Cairess and Mahamed have qualified for this summer's Olympics by comfortably beating the required time of 2:08:10.

Switzerland had a fantastic day in the wheelchair races at the London Marathon, with Marcel Hug and Catherine Debrunner both securing impressive victories.

Marcel Hug, who has won the London Marathon four times in a row, crossed the finish line 31 seconds ahead of USA's Daniel Romanchuk, while Great Britain's David Weir took third place.

In the women's wheelchair race, Catherine Debrunner took the lead at one point and finished over six minutes ahead of her compatriot Manuela Schar, earning her second London Marathon victory.
