Jessica Pegula shocked world number one Iga Swiatek at the US Open, earning her spot in a much-anticipated first Grand Slam semifinal.
American Jessica Pegula broke her streak of six major quarter-final losses by defeating world number one Iga Swiatek 6-2, 6-4 at the US Open.
She will now face Karolina Muchova in the semifinals, after the Czech player beat Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-1, 6-4.
"Finally, I can say I'm a semi-finalist," Pegula said. "To do it against the number one player in the world, it’s crazy, but I knew I could."
Her win continues a strong run for American players, with Emma Navarro also competing in the other semifinal against Aryna Sabalenka.
