Pakistan hockey legend Hassan Sardar has praised India's impressive showing at the Paris Olympics. He believes that the Harmanpreet Singh-led team has the strength and potential to capture the gold medal, ending a 44-year wait for the top prize.
India will face Germany in the men's hockey semifinals on Tuesday in Paris, following a dramatic shoot-out victory over Britain on Sunday.
Pakistan hockey legend Hassan Sardar, who led Pakistan to gold at the 1984 LA Olympics, has voiced strong support for India.
Sardar, who roots for India whenever Pakistan isn't competing, praised the Indian team’s performance, calling it one of the best he's seen. He believes the team, having shown significant improvement, is well-positioned to win gold at these Olympics. "They should play as if they are there to win only. At this level, it's all about mental preparation," he noted.
India, playing with 10 men for nearly 40 minutes after Amit Rohidas received a red card, held Britain to a 1-1 draw in regulation time and triumphed 4-2 in the shoot-out.
