Ons Jabeur suffered defeat on her WTA Finals debut of the season-ending event.

World No. 2 Ons Jabeur and World No. 3 Jessica Pegula has suffered shocking defeat on their WTA Finals debut of the season-ending event in Fort Worth, Texas.

Aryna Sabalenka and Maria Sakkari were the winners on day one of the WTA Finals as they edged Ons Jabeur and Jessica Pegula respectively in Group Nancy Richey.

World No 7 Sabalenka knocked out second seed Jabeur by 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 in two hours and 28 minutes at Dickies Arena in Texas.

While Maria Sakkari battled past Pegula by 7-6(6) 7-6(4) to record her first win over a top-five opponent this year and join Sabalenka as the early leaders of their four-player section.

The WTA Finals features eight women split into two groups, with the top two finishers moving onto the semifinals.
