Cindy Ngamba lost her boxing semi-final but made history by winning the Refugee Olympic Team's first-ever medal—a bronze—from Paris 2024.
Cindy Ngamba, who trains with the GB squad and lives in the UK, had already secured a bronze by reaching the semi-finals in the 75kg boxing category.
She was defeated by Panama's Atheyna Bylon, who received a penalty for excessive holding in the final round of a closely contested bout.
Despite one judge favoring Ngamba and the others scoring evenly, Bylon ultimately won 4-1, a decision that drew loud boos at Roland Garros Arena.
BBC boxing expert Steve Bunce criticized the decision, saying, "Ngamba is broken and upset. She knows she did enough to win."
