Cricket ICC Men's World Cup 2023
Posted 1 years agoA determined New Zealand made it four wins from four at the Cricket World Cup with a stunning 149-run victory over Afghanistan at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
Glenn Phillips, Tom Latham, and Will Young all scored half-centuries and benefitted from dropped catches to score a competitive score of 288-6.
Latham scored 68(74), while Phillips smashed 71(80) as New Zealand before getting out against Naveen-ul-Haq in the same over.
In reply, Afghanistan, who had defeated champions England, could not repeat the heroics against an organised New Zealand and were bundled at 139 in just 34.4 overs.
For the Kiwis, fast bowler Lockie Ferguson took 3-19, spinner Mitchell Santner claimed 3-39 while veteran seamer Trent Boult chipped in with 2-18.
Boult dismissed Ibrahim Zadran (14) and Azmatullah Omarzai (27) while Rachin Ravindra dismissed Rahmat Shah who was the top-scorer for Afghanistan with 36.
Santner completed 100 wickets in his 98th ODI when he dismissed Mohammad Nabi for seven before wrecking the rest of the batting in the company of Ferguson.
