The ten IPL teams are expected to be allowed five player retentions and one right-to-match (RTM) card during the IPL 2025 auction.
ESPNcricinfo reports that the IPL plans to approve these options once it finalizes the retention rules for the upcoming mega auction.
It is still unclear how many Indian players can be included among the retained players or if there will be a limit on retained overseas players.
The details about retention slabs are also not yet available. While the exact amount of the overall budget remains unconfirmed, it is expected to be around INR 115-120 crore.
If the IPL governing council, which is expected to meet this weekend in Bengaluru before the BCCI's annual general meeting on Sunday, approves the 5 + 1 retention model, it will set a record for the most retentions in the tournament's history.
In the lead-up to the 2017 mega auction for IPL 2018, teams were allowed five retentions, which could include up to three direct retentions or three right-to-match cards, with a maximum of three Indian players.
