The company that owns Formula 1, Liberty Media, has purchased MotoGP in a significant deal worth £3.6 billion.
The American media giant Liberty Media, which gained control of Formula 1 in 2017, has bought MotoGP from the Spanish company Dorna Sports, its owner since 1992.
In this deal, Liberty is acquiring approximately 86% of Dorna, while the current management of Dorna will retain the remaining share of the business.
The transaction is expected to be finalized by the end of the year.
Greg Maffei, the president and CEO of Liberty Media, expressed excitement about expanding their live sports portfolio, stating that MotoGP has a passionate global fan base, exciting racing, and a financially robust profile. He emphasized plans to enhance the sport for fans, teams, partners, and shareholders.
