Long-haul tours between South Africa and New Zealand might lead to the Rugby Championship being held every other year.
The South African Rugby Union plans to host the All Blacks for eight matches in 2026, including games against provincial and South Africa A teams, plus a three-Test series.
In 2030, the Springboks will visit New Zealand with a similar schedule as part of the 'Greatest Rugby Rivalry.'
Phil Waugh, Rugby Australia’s chief executive, suggested that with these plans, Sanzaar might prioritize series trophies over the Rugby Championship trophy.
He expects the Rugby Championship to occur in 2027 and 2029 but not in 2026, 2028, or 2030, with Australia aiming for its own standalone tours during those years.
