Mourinho Holds Back, Criticizes Referee After Defeat.

Jose Mourinho said he "can't speak" about the refereeing decisions that he believes contributed to Fenerbahce's Champions League exit.

Jose Mourinho is hopeful that his team can make a strong run in the Europa League, which they’ll enter after a controversial exit from the Champions League.

Fenerbahce's Champions League campaign ended on Tuesday when a 118th-minute penalty, awarded for handball after a VAR review, allowed Lille to equalize and secure a 3-2 aggregate win. Jonathan David converted the penalty, ending the match 1-1 on the night.

Mourinho, who won the Europa League with Manchester United in 2017 and the UEFA Cup with Porto in 2003, believes that his team could do well in the Europa League if refereeing standards improve.

Fenerbahce, trailing 2-1 from the first leg, had forced extra time with an injury-time own goal from Bafode Diakite before Lille's decisive penalty.
