MotoGP champion Marc Marquez has confirmed to join the Gresini team.

The Gresini Racing team is overwhelmed to announce that six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez has officially confirmed to join the team for the 2024 MotoGP season following his split with Honda at the end of the year.

Marquez, who won all six of his premier class titles with Honda having spent the last 11 years with the Japanese marque, has been heavily linked to Gresini for some time.

Honda’s efforts to retain Marquez, which included a recruitment drive to snare European engineering talent to help improve its bike, ultimately came to nothing.

"The Gresini Family is pleased to announce the arrival of Marc Marquez for the 2024 season," the team said in a statement on the MotoGP website.

"Starting next season, he will be the new standard bearer of Gresini Racing MotoGP alongside his brother Alex," it said.

The 30-year-old Spaniard, who has been hampered by injury since the start of the 2020 season, had one year left on a four-year deal with Honda.

Both parties agreed to go their separate ways a year early.
