McLaren's Brown Discusses Championship Battle, Team Resurgence, and Insights on Newey.

McLaren F1 boss Zak Brown is "surprised" that the team is competing with Red Bull for the world championship this season.

McLaren is just 42 points behind Red Bull in the constructors' championship with 10 races left.

"If I said I wasn't surprised, I'd be lying," Zak Brown told BBC Sport. "Red Bull had a big advantage and Mercedes has been dominant."

Brown expected progress but not this fast: "I thought we'd close the gap, but being this close to the lead at the summer break is unexpected. While I don't think we'll instantly take the lead, if we maintain our current trajectory, we'll be in a good place by the end of the year. I thought we'd be here by 2025, not 2024, but I'm not complaining."

McLaren was 115 points behind Red Bull after the sixth race of the season in Miami, where Lando Norris claimed his first victory.
