Mark Selby comfortably clinched the English Open title in nearly two years.

Four-time world champion Mark Selby ended his title drought by claiming his first title since the 2021 World Championship after beating Luca Brecel 9-6 in the final of the English Open in Brentwood.

With the title victory, Mark Selby also became the joint-most decorated player in Home Nations history, leveling with Judd Trump on four such victories.

Selby looked in superb touch in the opening four frames after his first break of 90 was not answered by Brecel. As the game proceeds, Selby secured two more half-centuries, the first of 57 and then of 74 in the second and third frames respectively which moved Selby three clear.

Selby managed to keep Brecel at arms length by winning a protracted 12th frame to lead 7-5.

Mark Selby won the next frame to move within a frame of the title, before Brecel made his last telling contribution of the final by very nearly producing the second 147 maximum break of the week.
