Olympic champion Lydia Ko secured the British Open title on Sunday (August 25), winning by two shots. Her victory caps off a remarkable three weeks following her gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics and her induction into the LPGA Hall of Fame.
At one point, Lydia Ko, world number one Nelly Korda, Shi Ji-yai, and Lilia Vu were all tied at six under par as they tackled the back nine at St Andrews' Old Course.
Ultimately, Ko, from New Zealand, claimed victory with a $1,425,000 prize, the largest in the event’s history. This win marks her third major title and her first since 2016.
Ko set the clubhouse lead at seven under par. As Shin and Korda fell out of contention, Vu had a chance to force a playoff with a birdie putt on the 18th. However, Vu's putt came up short, securing Ko’s memorable win.
