Luka Doncic shined as the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 108-105 in the opening game of the NBA Western Conference Finals.
Slovenia's Luka Doncic led the Mavericks with 33 points, scoring 15 in the final quarter, as Dallas secured a 108-105 win over the Timberwolves in the first game of the Western Conference Finals.
Kyrie Irving contributed 30 points for Dallas, with 24 in the first half in Minneapolis.
"We had to work really hard to get this one," Doncic said. "We usually struggle in game ones, so we wanted to make a statement. But it's just one win, and we need three more."
The lead shifted back and forth in the intense final quarter. Anthony Edwards' 24-foot three-pointer gave the Timberwolves a 102-98 lead with under four minutes left.
However, the Mavericks responded with eight unanswered points, including a step-back jumper from Doncic, to regain control and secure the victory.
Jaden McDaniels led the Timberwolves with 24 points, while Edwards added 19.
Game two is set for Friday in Minneapolis.
