Long Seeks to Make a Statement Against Ray in PFL Glasgow Showdown.

“I once promised my family that I’d hang up my boots at 35, but if I’m being honest, that might have been a bit of a stretch. I’m still enjoying every moment out there, and the thrill keeps me going!”

As Welsh fighter Lewis Long approaches the twilight of his career, he’s experiencing a rejuvenation, gearing up to headline PFL’s Glasgow event on Friday, September 27.

Known as 'Foot' Long, he’s set to face off against Scotland's Stevie Ray in a highly anticipated welterweight clash.

Ray, a seasoned UFC veteran with an impressive 38 professional fights under his belt, promises to be a formidable opponent.

Long enters the ring embracing the role of the "underdog," ready to defy expectations and prove that he still has what it takes to shine on the big stage.

The excitement is palpable as he prepares to showcase his skills and determination in front of the Glasgow crowd!

Long is determined to shake off the underdog label.

“I know the challenge ahead of me, and while I feel like the underdog, I’m ready to prove myself,” he stated.

“When I talked to PFL, they said, 'Thanks for stepping in,' but I replied, 'Stepping in? I’m here to win!'”

With a professional record of 19 wins—12 by submission—and seven losses, Long is confident despite a long break from fighting. He believes there won’t be any ring rust, as he waited for the "right opportunity" to come along.

“I never underestimate my opponents. I’ve been patient because I wanted to find the right fights,” he explained. “I know my worth and have turned down other offers to wait for this moment. Headlining a PFL show, especially with their recent success, is a big deal. There’s really no pressure; it’s just exciting.”

When he got the call while on holiday, he was thrilled. “My partner asked if it would be a tough fight, and I said yes. She was worried, but I’m ready for this!”

This event is a milestone for PFL, marking their first show in Scotland, where the OVO Hydro will host the semi-finals of the PFL Europe $100,000 (£75,000) tournaments.

The competition kicked off in Paris and Newcastle, with the finals set to take place in Lyon this December.

Long has already secured his spot in next year's tournament. “I’ve received a handshake for another fight this year and signed a contract for next year’s European tournament, so expect to see more of me,” he shared.

Sixteen years after his first professional fight, his passion remains strong.

“At 35, I joke that I’m nearing retirement, but I stay fit for my students and train with them daily,” he noted. “I practice yoga, and my love for the sport continues to grow; there’s always something new to learn.”

As for Stevie Ray, who is just a year younger, Long mentioned, “I didn’t realize he’d retired twice, but he can choose to step away for a third time if he likes. I’ve thought about retirement, but I’m confident I’ll keep fighting for a few more years.”
