Leicester Tigers Hit with £47,000 Fine for Breaching Premiership Rugby Salary Cap Once More.

Leicester Tigers have once more been penalized for going over the Premiership Rugby salary cap.

Leicester Tigers have been fined £47,000 for exceeding the Premiership Rugby salary cap during the 2019-2020 season. This adds to their previous fine of nearly £310,000 imposed in 2022 for breaches spanning from 2016 to 2021.

According to a statement from Premiership Rugby, these fines were related to salary payments made during the Covid-19 period that were not included in the club's certification for the 2019-2020 salary cap year.

The additional payments of £47,136.91 were identified as exceeding the salary cap spend for Leicester Tigers during that season.

As per regulations, the club must pay £1 for every £1 overspent, resulting in the £47,136.91 overrun tax, which Leicester Tigers have paid in full.

Leicester's chief executive, Andrea Pinchen, stated, "This issue doesn't involve any of our recent seasons, and we appreciate Premiership Rugby's cooperation in resolving this matter."

In comparison, Saracens faced significant penalties for salary cap breaches, including fines as high as £1.1 million for the 2016-2017 season, leading to their relegation in 2020.
