Landmark Achievement: Indian Table Tennis Teams Secure Qualification for Paris Olympics.

On Monday, it was a historic moment for Indian table tennis as both the men’s and women’s teams achieved qualification for the Olympics for the very first time.

Their entry into the prestigious event was secured solely based on their world rankings, marking a significant milestone for Indian table tennis on the global stage.

Following the World Team Championships Finals held in Busan last month, which marked the final qualifying event for the Paris Olympics, seven spots in the team events were up for grabs based on rankings.

"The highest-ranked teams not yet qualified in the latest World Team Ranking secured their spot for Paris 2024," stated ITTF.

In the women’s event, India, ranked 13th, Poland (12th), Sweden (15th), and Thailand have secured their spots in Paris.

Meanwhile, Croatia (12th), India (15th), and Slovenia (11th) have earned their places in the men’s team event.

This achievement marks a significant moment in Indian table tennis history, as it will be the first time the nation competes in the team event at the Olympics since its introduction at the Beijing 2008 Games.

Both Indian teams narrowly missed out on Olympic berths at the ITTF World Team Championships Finals after exiting in the pre-quarterfinals.

The men’s team, led by veteran Sharath Kamal, suffered a 0-3 defeat to South Korea, while the women’s team, led by Manika Batra, fell 1-3 to Chinese Taipei.
