Ko’s Career-Defining Victory Silences 'Under-Achiever' Label.

While her mother believes Lydia Ko was a better golfer in her teenage years, Ko demonstrated Hall of Fame potential with a thrilling victory at the home of golf on Sunday.

Just three weeks after winning gold at the Paris Olympics, New Zealander Lydia Ko staged a remarkable comeback to claim the AIG Women’s Open at St Andrews’ historic Old Course.

Her victory capped off a challenging major championship season, marked by tough conditions, a surprising slip by world number one Nelly Korda, and slow play.

With 52,887 spectators watching, the final showdown featured top women golfers, including former number ones Lilia Vu and Ruoning Yin.

The tension lasted until the last green, where Vu missed a birdie putt that could have forced a playoff.

Ko was the only top contender to shoot under 70 amid strong winds on golf's most famous links.
