Kerr Ensures 1500m Medals for Team GB at Olympics.

Josh Kerr has confidently "guaranteed" that Team GB will secure Olympic medals this summer in the 1500m event. He is aiming for gold in Paris and has his sights set on breaking the national record after surpassing Steve Cram's mile best, which stood for 39 years, in Oregon.

In Sunday's Diamond League event, the 26-year-old Josh Kerr outpaced Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen from Norway.

His fellow Scots, Neil Gourley and former world champion Jake Wightman, secured fourth and fifth places.

Kerr, the reigning 1500m world champion, praised the competition, calling it one of the best mile fields ever. He also commended Gourley and Wightman for their remarkable performances despite recent struggles with injuries.

Kerr had conversations with Cram, now a BBC commentator, before and after Sunday's race. He shared that Cram mentioned it was time for someone to break his British mile record and expressed pride in Kerr's achievement, even though it may have been a bittersweet moment for him.

The Scot believes his win in Eugene demonstrated his form to the British selectors, earning him the chance to compete in the 800m at the Olympic trials to improve his speed.

Despite his bronze medal in 2020, Kerr isn't quite considering doubling up at the Olympics yet. He stated that his ultimate goals are to become a world and Olympic champion, having secured indoor and outdoor titles already. He doesn't want to take unnecessary risks and knows that his teammates will also be striving for gold at the Games.
