Jumbo-Visma's renowned rider Nathan Van Hooydonck was forced to end his cycling career due to a heart problem after being fitted with an internal defibrillator (ICD) following his serious car accident on September 12.
The ICD is there to correct potential future cardiac arrhythmia as, after extensive testing, Van Hooydonck was found to have a heart muscle anomaly that caused him to lose control of his car last Tuesday and nearly took his life.
Following extensive testing, Van Hooydonck received a diagnosis revealing a heart muscle anomaly as the underlying cause of the disorder that nearly resulted in his life-threatening accident. Regrettably, these findings mark the conclusion of Van Hooydonck’s professional cycling career.
