Johnson-Thompson Shines with Strong Heptathlon Start.

Great Britain's Katarina Johnson-Thompson is off to a strong start, leading the heptathlon as she aims to secure the elusive Olympic medal she has long pursued.

Reigning world champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson, 31, holds a narrow lead in the heptathlon after strong performances in the 100m hurdles and high jump, amassing 2,197 points. Belgium's defending Olympic champion, Nafi Thiam, is close behind with 2,173 points.

Fellow Briton Jade O'Dowda is in ninth place with 2,024 points, while Ireland's Kate O'Connor is 19th with 1,908 points.

The competition continues with the shot put and 200m later on Thursday, with medals to be decided after the long jump, javelin, and 800m on Friday.

In other events, Britain’s women’s 4x100m relay team advanced to Friday's final by winning their heat in 42.03 seconds, aiming for their first medal in the event since 1956.

The men's 4x100m relay team also made it to the final after an anxious wait for confirmation.
