Joelinton's Strike Seals Tough Opening Win for 10-Man Newcastle Against Southampton.

Joelinton's decisive goal earned 10-man Newcastle a hard-fought victory on the opening day against newly promoted Southampton in a fiery clash at St James' Park.

The match was marked by intense play and tempers flaring, but Newcastle's resilience shone through as they secured the win despite being a player down.

A misjudged pass from Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy handed the ball to Alexander Isak, who then set up Joelinton for Newcastle's only shot on target just before half-time.

This goal came 17 minutes after home defender Fabian Schar was shown a red card for a clash with Ben Brereton Diaz, who had fallen to the ground after minimal contact.

Despite the contentious decision, St James' Park roared in support as Eddie Howe's side defended vigorously against Southampton's relentless attacks.

Tempers continued to flare at half-time, with both teams involved in a scuffle in the tunnel.
