Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen broke the 3,000 meters world record by over three seconds, while Sweden’s Mondo Duplantis set a new pole vault record with a 6.26m clearance at the Silesia Diamond League meeting on Sunday.
Ingebrigtsen completed the 3,000 meters in 7:17.55, surpassing Kenya’s Daniel Komen’s 1996 record of 7:20.67. This was the oldest men’s individual track world record.
The 23-year-old Norwegian was stunned by his achievement, placing his hands on his head in disbelief as he saw his time.
Ingebrigtsen was awarded $50,000 and posed with the cheque in front of the clock at Silesia Stadium in Chorzow.
