Ishan Kishan Named in Rest of India Squad for Irani Cup Showdown.

Ishan Kishan's comeback to red-ball cricket is gaining momentum with his selection for the Rest of India squad in the Irani Cup, set to take place in Lucknow from October 1 to 5.

Kishan recently made his first-class cricket comeback since July 2023, a time marked by the loss of his BCCI central contract, scoring a century for India C in the Duleep Trophy.

Kishan is one of two wicketkeepers named in the squad, alongside Dhruv Jurel, who has also been selected, pending India’s choice for their second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur from September 27 to October 1.

Left-arm fast bowler Yash Dayal and middle-order batsman Sarfaraz Khan, both included in the Test squad, have been selected for the Rest of India and Mumbai squads, respectively, with the same condition.

The Rest of India squad includes four main openers: captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhimanyu Easwaran—who was the second-highest run scorer in the recent Duleep Trophy—Devdutt Padikkal, and B Sai Sudharsan.

However, Padikkal and Sai Sudharsan have recently taken on roles in the middle order. Padikkal batted at No. 4 during his Test debut against England earlier this year in Dharamsala.
