India will host the 44th Chess Olympiad in nearly 100 years of the history of chess.

The 44th Chess Olympiad will be held at Mahabalipuram near Chennai from July 28 to August 10, 2022.

India will be hosting this prestigious event in nearly 100 years of the history of the Chess Olympiad.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the first-ever Chess Olympiad Torch Relay for the 44th edition of Chess Olympiad on 19th June, 2022 at the Indira Gandhi International Stadium in New Delhi.

The historic Olympiad Torch Relay will circulate in 75 cities across the country in a time span of 40 days before reaching its destination, Mahabalipuram near Chennai on July 27.

The chess grandmasters of the states will bear the torch and will forward it to the next location to maintain the typical ritual of the Chess Olympiad Torch Relay.
