Iga Swiatek suffered shocking defeat against Jessica Pegula in United Cup.

USA's tennis star, Jessica Pegula produced sensational performance and delivered United States the perfect start to their United Cup semi-final against Poland.

Jessica Pegula has clinched 6-2 6-2 victory over world number one Iga Swiatek in the opening singles encounter.

Earlier Frances Tiafoe won the opening men's singles rubber to give the US a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five-match tie being held under a closed roof at Ken Rosewall Arena.

Swiatek suffered her first loss to Pegula since 2019 as the Pole struggled to get a stronghold on the match, winning just 38 per cent of the points on her first serve and 33 per cent on her second.

Greece and Italy will play the opening two singles rubbers of the second semifinal in Sydney later on Friday night.
