I Didn't Surrender the Victory; I Lost It on the Line.

Lando Norris wrestled with the decision to return the Hungarian Grand Prix victory to his teammate Oscar Piastri but ultimately felt it was the "fair" and "honest" choice.

Lando Norris debated for 20 laps about whether to give up his lead in the Hungarian Grand Prix to teammate Oscar Piastri.

Despite McLaren aiming for their first one-two finish in nearly three years, Norris felt it was the right thing to do.

"I didn't deserve to win the race," Norris said. "Oscar led the whole race, so it wouldn't be fair for me to take the win just because I'm fighting for a championship. I didn't give up the win; I lost it at the start."

Both drivers agreed that McLaren's strategy had complicated their race. Norris only got ahead of Piastri because the team made an early pit stop to protect against Lewis Hamilton, even though Norris had a five-second lead. This race marked Piastri's first win.
