Billy Horschel has withdrawn from next week’s Irish Open at Royal County Down due to an injury.
The US star, ranked 25th in the world, revealed he suffered a 'minor back/rib injury' at the BMW Championship, which persisted into last week's Tour Championship in Atlanta.
At 37, Horschel said he needs another week to recover fully.
He expressed disappointment about missing the Irish Open, recalling his positive experience at the K Club last year and the amazing support from Irish fans.
Horschel also noted his anticipation to return to Royal County Down, where he played for the USA in the 2007 Walker Cup.
The American, a regular on the DP World Tour, plans to defend his 2021 win at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. He will also compete in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championships and the French Open next month.
Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry will lead the field at the Irish Open.
