Government Calls on Sports Bodies to Ease Rising Tensions.

Sports governing bodies have met with UK government officials to explore ways to help ease rising tensions amid the worst riots in a decade.

Since July 30, violence in towns and cities across England and Northern Ireland has been driven by online misinformation, far-right groups, and anti-immigration sentiment.

Over 400 people have been arrested, with 140 charged, while peaceful counter-protests have also emerged.

BBC Sport reports that the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) held a video call on Wednesday with representatives from various sports organizations, including the Premier League, EFL, RFU, and RFL, to discuss the impact on sports.

With the English domestic football season starting on Friday, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy urged sports bodies and clubs to promote unity and tolerance.

Despite the strain on police resources due to the riots, the government is keen for fixtures to proceed as scheduled.
