Glamorgan's Michael Hogan has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket.

Michael Hogan, the Australia-born former Glamorgan fast bowler, has officially announced his retirement from professional cricket.

Michael Hogan initially made the decision to hang up his boots last winter as he left Glamorgan but then U-turned on that decision in November and signed for Kent.

The right-arm bowler made 22 appearances across first-class and T20 cricket for Matt Walker’s team, also being part of Kent’s coaching set-up for their unsuccessful One-Day Cup defence.

Kent director of cricket Simon Cook said: “Hoges has been an outstanding individual, on and off the field, in his time as a Kent cricketer.

“He has been an invaluable source of knowledge to our bowlers both young and not so young! He’s been a steady influence whenever he has played and has always given his best, as he has done throughout his career.

“We wish him well in his retirement and he’ll always be welcome back at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, any time.”

Hogan ends his career with 695 first-class wickets at an impressive average of 25.06, as well as 272 wickets across the limited-overs formats.

Hogan was the leading wicket-taker in Australian domestic cricket over a five-year period without winning international recognition.

Hogan took over as captain mid-way through 2017, led the club in 2018, and played a starring role in Glamorgan's One-Day Cup triumph in 2021.

Announcing his retirement on social media on Wednesday, Hogan said: "Today is a bittersweet moment for me as I announce my retirement from professional cricket."
