After breaking tennis' longest losing streak in 52 years, China's Zhang Shuai is quickly making up for lost time.
The 35-year-old Zhang Shuai, ranked 595th, ended a dismal streak of 24 consecutive defeats over more than 600 days at her home tournament, the China Open, where she made history.
After securing her first win since January 2023 by beating 65th-ranked American McCartney Kessler, Zhang achieved a stunning upset by defeating US Open semi-finalist Emma Navarro, ranked eighth in the world, to advance to the third round.
This victory made her the lowest-ranked player to ever defeat a top-10 opponent in the tournament's history.
