Formula 1 Unveils Blueprint for Compact and Eco-Friendly Racing Cars.

Starting from 2026, Formula 1 cars are set to become smaller, more agile, and environmentally friendly, according to the FIA, the sport's governing body.

The upcoming changes to Formula 1 cars are quite substantial. They'll shed 30 kilograms in weight, become 10 centimeters narrower, and their engines will feature a nearly equal balance between electric and internal combustion power. Plus, they'll be powered by fully sustainable fuels.

The FIA has coined the concept behind these 2026 rules as a "nimble car," emphasizing agility and efficiency.

Additionally, active aerodynamics will play a significant role in maximizing the potential of these new engines.

The new Formula 1 cars will feature innovative front and rear wings that adjust during races.

These wings will open on straightaways, reducing drag and boosting speed, and then close to enhance downforce for better cornering performance.

Overtaking maneuvers will be aided by a new system called manual override mode, designed to provide a power boost to a car following closely behind another. This replaces the current DRS (drag-reduction system) used for overtaking.

The introduction of more powerful hybrid engines, with a threefold increase in electrical power, has enticed Audi and Ford to join F1, while also convincing Honda to stay after initially planning to exit the sport.

This brings the total number of engine manufacturers to six, including Mercedes, Ferrari, Renault, and the newly formed Red Bull Powertrains company partnering with Ford.
