Formula 1 announced to extend the 'sprint' events to six next year.

Formula One has officially confirmed that the number of sprint qualifying races will be increased from three to six for the 2023 season.

This year's calendar saw sprints at Imola and the Red Bull Ring, with the final event to take place at Interlagos.

Sprint sessions have become highly popular with fans since it was introduced last year with qualifying taking place on Friday's and Saturday's short sprint race deciding the grid for Sunday's main race as well as awarding additional points.

World champion Max Verstappen qualified top and won both sprint races earlier this season, though he only converted the feat at Imola into a race win, with Charles Leclerc victorious in Austria.

Azerbaijan's promoter also said they want its Grand Prix in Baku to be one of six proposed Sprint weekends next season.
