Former WBA super-flyweight world champion, Kal Yafai retires from the Boxing World.

Former WBA super-flyweight world champion, Kal Yafai officially announced his retirement from the Boxing World following a brutal knockout loss.

The former WBA super-flyweight world champion was having his second comeback bout after taking an extended break from boxing following his first career defeat in 2020.

Yafai was once considered one of the country's best fighters during his four-year reign as WBA super-flyweight champ.

Yafai bounced back with victory over Jerald Paclar and returned in Los Angeles against Jonathan Rodriguez.

But it ended in a disaster as he was dropped and stopped in the very first round.

Yafai, 34, hung up his gloves right after the bout but revealed his mind was made up even before the first bell sounded.

He said: "This was the end before the fight anyway. I had 'The Last Dance' on my robe and engraved in my shorts.

"I knew I was coming to the end anyway."

Yafai, who represented Great Britain at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, leaves the sport with a 27–2 record.

In 2016, Yafai achieved his career goal by beating Luis Concepcion to win the WBA super-flyweight world title.

After five successful defences, he then got his dream fight against Nicaraguan legend Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez in February 2020.

Chocolatito rolled back the years and put on a magnificent performance that night, dominating Yafai before a ninth-round knockout.

It wasn't until November 2022 that Yafai returned to the ring.

A year later, his vulnerabilities have now been exposed again by Rodriguez and he has wisely decided to call time on his career as a result.
