Former Nigeria international John Mikel Obi announced his retirement at the age of 35.

Former Nigeria international and Chelsea star, John Mikel Obi has finally announced his retirement from football after his long spell of 18 years in game.

The former midfielder started his career at Plateau United before moving to Denmark's Lyn FK as his first European side.

A wonderful two-year spell saw Obi Mikel secure a £16m move to Chelsea, where he quickly reached his peak form.

Mikel played a key role as Chelsea secured a first Champions League trophy in 2012 as well as two Premier League titles, the Champions League and the Europa League, among others. He has made a mammoth 372 appearances in a Chelsea shirt.

He then left the Blues to continue his career at Tj Teda, Middlesbrough, Stoke City, and Trabozanspor before moving to Kuwait SC, in July 2021.
