Former Bristol Flanker El-Abd Appointed as England's Defence Coach.

Former Bristol flanker Joe El-Abd has been appointed as England's new defence coach, taking over from Felix Jones of Ireland.

At 44, El-Abd is set to join the England squad just in time for their autumn campaign, kicking off against New Zealand on November 2. He will initially balance this role with his position as head coach of Oyonnax, a team in France's second tier.

Once Oyonnax's 2024-25 season concludes, El-Abd will transition to working full-time with England.

“I’m excited about the direction this England team is taking and the vision they have under Steve Borthwick's leadership,” El-Abd expressed, highlighting his enthusiasm for this new chapter.
