Fernandes Extends Man Utd Stay with New Contract Through June 2027.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has signed a new contract keeping him at Old Trafford until June 2027, with an option for an additional year.

The Portugal midfielder has made a remarkable impact at Manchester United, netting 79 goals and providing 67 assists in 234 appearances.

Fernandes, 29, arrived from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 for £47 million. His previous contract, signed in 2022, was set to end in 2026.

Expressing his commitment, Fernandes said, "Everybody knows the passion I have for Manchester United. I see a bright future ahead and am excited to lead this team forward."

Fernandes took over as Manchester United's captain from Harry Maguire in July 2023. Despite facing criticism from former United stars Gary Neville and Roy Keane, manager Erik ten Hag has remained supportive of him.

Fernandes mentioned that he "wouldn't have signed this contract" if he didn't believe his "best moments at United are still to come."

Reflecting on his time at the club, he recalled highlights like having his name sung from the Stretford End, scoring a hat-trick against Leeds, leading the team on European nights at Old Trafford, and lifting trophies at Wembley.

He added, "From my talks with the football leadership and manager, it's clear how determined everyone is to compete for major trophies in the future."

Fernandes wasn't among Manchester United's 'untouchables' this summer, meaning the club was open to offers, but no bid reached the level they deemed acceptable.

Before the FA Cup final in May, Fernandes had hinted at uncertainty about his future, expressing a desire for his expectations to align with those of the club.

United’s sporting director, Dan Ashworth, praised Fernandes as a "brilliant leader" who helps both players and staff reach their best. Ashworth highlighted Fernandes' consistent high performance and dedication, stating, "Bruno embodies what it means to be a United player. He is central to our goals, and we look forward to achieving success together."
