Evenepoel Overcomes Late Puncture to Secure Second Gold Medal.

Belgium's Remco Evenepoel triumphed in the Olympic men's road race in Paris despite a late puncture, adding a second gold medal to the one he earned in the time trial just a week earlier.

The 2022 world champion, Remco Evenepoel, made history as the first man to win both road cycling events at the same Olympics.

At 24, Evenepoel surged ahead from the peloton and joined the leading group within the final 40km. He set a grueling pace, dropping France's Valentin Madouas on the penultimate climb with 15km remaining.

Despite a late scare when he had to change bikes after a puncture in the last 4km, Evenepoel's substantial lead ensured he crossed the finish line 1 minute and 11 seconds ahead of Madouas.

Madouas secured silver, while Frenchman Christophe Laporte claimed bronze after sprinting for third.

Ireland's Ben Healy, who was in the leading group for much of the race, finished 10th, and Great Britain's Tom Pidcock, who won mountain bike gold earlier, ended in 13th.
