The Surrey Scorchers, a long-time British Basketball League team based in Guildford, have announced they are folding.
The Surrey Scorchers announced they are folding due to uncertainty created by the revocation of the league's licence in June. Basketball League Ltd (BLL) lost its contract after financial concerns were raised by the British Basketball Federation.
The BLL, which had run the men's game since 2017, was replaced by Premier Basketball Ltd with a three-year interim licence.
However, the University of Surrey, which owns the Surrey Sports Park where the Scorchers played, can no longer support the team.
Economic challenges in the UK's higher education sector forced the university to make financial adjustments, leading to the decision to end the Scorchers' operations.
