Gemma Dryburgh is aiming for a strong performance at this week’s Women’s Open at St Andrews to boost her chances of making the European Solheim Cup team for next month’s event in Virginia.
The 31-year-old from Aberdeen played a key role in Europe’s Solheim Cup win in Spain last year, earning half points in her two matches as the team fought back from a 4-0 deficit to a 14-14 tie.
Currently not in line for an automatic spot, Dryburgh hopes for a captain's pick from Suzanne Peterson. "It’s been a big goal of mine to get back on that team," she told BBC Sport Scotland. "A strong performance here could help secure a pick."
Although Dryburgh is familiar with St Andrews, she has played the iconic Old Course only once before.
