Dillian Whyte has been ruled out of Anthony Joshua's fight following a doping test.

The highly anticipated and thrilling rematch between Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte on August 12 has been cancelled after Dillian Whyte returned "adverse analytical findings" from a doping test.

Fight organizers, Matchroom, released the following short statement: "Today, the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) informed Matchroom, the Association of Boxing Commissions, and the British Boxing Board of Control that Dillian Whyte had returned adverse analytical findings as part of a random anti-doping protocol."

The fight was supposed to take place at the O2 Arena in London and was going to reignite what has been a long-standing feud between the two boxers.

Whyte previously tested positive for a banned substance, Methylhexaneamine, in 2012 after facing Sandor Balogh, which it was found he had ingested through a training supplement.

He was banned from the ring for two years and the result of the Balogh fight was written off.

It would have been Joshua’s first outing since an unimpressive victory over Jermaine Franklin back in April.

That contest went the distance and Whyte was on standby at ringside to call out Joshua for a reunion.

Whyte also beat Franklin in his most recent fight, though his win by majority decision sparked huge controversy as he returned for the first time since being knocked out by Tyson Fury at Wembley.
