Cricket World Cup 2023: New Zealand thrashed Sri Lanka by 5 wickets in the crucial contest.

New Zealand displayed a much dominating performance and thrashed Sri Lanka by 5 wickets in 23.2 overs to almost confirm their place in the semi-finals of the ICC World Cup 2023. 

New Zealand’s win by a big margin has eliminated Pakistan and Afghanistan from the semi-final race.

Batting first, Sri Lanka managed to post a score of 171 runs, with the top scorer being Kusal Perera, who made 51 runs at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

The Sri Lankan team struggled, losing wickets at regular intervals, and no other batter managed to score more than 19 runs. 

For the Kiwis, Trent Boult scalped 3 wickets for 37 runs in his 10 overs while Lockie Ferguson and Mitchell Santner took 2 wickets each. 

In reply, New Zealand successfully chased down the target in 23.2 overs by losing five wickets. Opening batsmen Devon Conway (45) and Rachin Ravindra (42) as well as Daryl Mitchell's 43 runs helped the Kiwis to register their big margin victory.
