American gymnast Jordan Chiles has appealed to the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland after being denied the bronze medal in the women’s floor exercise at the 2024 Olympics.
Jordan Chiles, 23, has taken her case to the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland after two previous appeals were denied by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Chiles was initially fifth in the women’s floor exercise at the 2024 Olympics, but after an inquiry upgraded her score to third, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) awarded her the bronze.
However, Romania’s Ana Barbosu, who was originally awarded the bronze, contested the decision, arguing that the inquiry was filed four seconds past the FIG’s one-minute deadline.
CAS, typically the highest authority in sports legal matters, upheld Barbosu’s claim.
Chiles' lawyers contend that CAS ignored video evidence showing the inquiry was submitted on time.
US media reports have also raised concerns about potential bias, which CAS has strongly denied.
