Celtic has made history by becoming the first Scottish team to qualify for the Women’s Champions League group stage since its inception in the 2020-21 season.
This groundbreaking achievement not only showcases the club’s rising talent but also marks a significant milestone for Scottish women's football on the European stage.
Celtic’s journey reflects their determination and skill, setting the stage for an exciting chapter in their history as they compete among Europe’s elite clubs.
Celtic secured their historic spot in the Women's Champions League group stage by finishing off Vorskla Poltava with a 2-0 victory, having led 1-0 from the first leg.
The first half at the Albert Bartlett Stadium was uneventful, but wing-back Emma Lawton shone after being brought into the starting lineup.
The home team missed a key chance when Lucy Ashworth-Clifford's rebound shot went wide.
After the break, Celtic ramped up the pressure, and Lawton made her European debut memorable by scoring her first goal for the club in the 52nd minute, connecting with a cross from Ashworth-Clifford with a powerful header.
Shannon McGregor then added a second goal, nodding in from a delivery by Murphy Agnew.
Celtic’s night was further sweetened by a clean sheet, despite some late attempts from Vorskla's Viktoriia Radionova, who was denied by Maria McAneny and shot just over the bar as time ran out.
